Engineering resin is the category of LCD/UV resins built for functional parts instead of display models. They offer better heat resistance, toughness, impact strength, or dimensional stability than standard resins, which makes them the right choice for tools, jigs, fixtures, functional prototypes, and end-use parts that need to survive real handling.
Standard vs Engineering Resin
Standard resin is easy to print, cheap, and great for models, miniatures, and visual prototypes. It can be brittle and soften under heat. Engineering resins trade some ease of printing for mechanical performance: higher temperature resistance, better impact strength, or a tougher, less brittle feel that resembles ABS. If your part will be touched, loaded, or exposed to warmth, engineering resin is usually worth the upgrade.
Choosing the Right Engineering Resin
- ABS-like toughness: for snap-fit parts and enclosures that flex without breaking.
- High-temperature resistance: for parts near heat sources or post-processing.
- Tough, durable parts: functional prototypes and handling tools.
- Smooth surface finish: engineering resins that still polish well for end parts.
Ancepts 3D carries ABS-like engineering resin, pro-tough resin, and art engineering resin. Browse the full resin range and tell us what part you are printing; we can recommend the right grade.
